Soft contact lenses

The doctors at VQ Optometry are well versed in fitting spherical, toric, multifocal, and specialty soft contact lenses. With the continuous advancements of new soft, daily-disposable lenses, they are safer and more comfortable than ever before.

Rigid Gas Permeables

VQ optometry is equipped with modern equipment to aid in a precise, custom fit rigid lens. For those who seek unparalleled optical clarity without wearing spectacles, Rigid Gas Permeable lenses, otherwise known as RGPs, may provide sharper vision not achieved with soft contacts

RGPs also have applications in correcting vision when spectacles or soft lenses are unable to. Patients with ocular surface disease or keratoconus often require rigid lenses for vision correction.

Specialty contact lenses

Ortho Keratology – AKA Ortho-K

  • Think of Invisalign (clear braces) that are used to straighten teeth, except it is for your eyes.
  • These specialized, rigid contact lenses are worn at night and work by subtly changing the shape of the front surface of our eyes while you sleep. It is a non-invasive and non surgical process.
  • After a period of around 2 weeks, and provided they are worn as prescribed, Ortho-K will fully correct your vision without having to wear glasses or contact lenses during the day
  • Studies have shown that Ortho-K may slow down the progression of near-sighted vision in young patients. This is a big deal considering the fact that other studies suggest that prolonged use of digital devices in young children may lead to progression in near-sighted individuals

Scleral Contact Lenses

  • Scleral contact lenses are some of the largest rigid, or hard contact lenses on the market.
  • They are a larger version of the traditional Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses. Instead of situating on the clear, front part of our eyes (the cornea), Scleral lenses completely vault over the cornea and rest on the whites of our eyes.
  • For patients with severe dry eye, Scleral lenses provide a highly therapeutic benefit because they create a reservoir for the tears. This allows the tears to bathe the cornea and help alleviate both clinical signs and symptoms of dry eyes.
  • For patients who already wear soft contact lenses but have persistent issues with dry eyes, Scleral lenses are a sound alternative.
  • Scleral lenses can also be used for patients with ocular surface diseases.
  • Scleral lenses, like traditional RGP lenses, have the ability to provide increased clarity in vision over soft contact lenses.
